Recent discovery!
It is possible that with the information shared by Charles W. Hawkins with Aunt Ginger, and comparing research done by Jeff and myself, it appears we may finally have a true connection to the famous John Hawkins.
Here is what I've come up with:
John Hawkins, esquire, marries Joan Amados. (I'll just put the children that connect)
Child Captain William Hawkins born before 1490 marries Joan Trelawny
Child Sir William Hawkins born 1530 Plymouth marries Mary Halse
Child William Hawkins born 29 Feb 1587 marries Sara
Child Thomas Hawkins born 1610 marries Elizabeth Lucas and Frances
Child Thomas Hawkins born prior 1640 marries unknown wife
Child Edward Hawkins born 1660 marries Elinor
Child Michael Hawkins born 1685 maries Agness Eaton
Child John Hawkins born 7 Jan 1721 married unknown
Child John Hawkins
And that is where Charles W. Hawkins kicks in with all the Joshua Hawkins info, and our info stops.
(2) John Hawkins, son of Michael and Agness (Eaton?) Hawkins, born ca. 1716 in Prince George Co., Virginia. Wife unknown, but he had 15 children, listed earlier. We do know something about the lineage of one of his sons - Joshua, who was a Revolutionary War hero from South Carolina.
I notice he has a different birth date on our? first John Hawkins, and no date for John Hawkins Jr.
Apparently all the records in that area were burned during the war, and hence the confusion and mysteries of what happened to this particular line.
What do you all think? Does this sound like a plausible linkage to THE John Hawkins line?
